Phone Call With An Update

Posted by: Admin on: November 19, 2008

It has been just alittle over a week since we spoke to the doctor during the second treatment. It’s Friday, and just about the end of the day. The telephone rings and it’s the neuromuscular doctor. He has decided on a diagnosis and it’s called AMAN, acute motor axonal neuropathy; it happens to be a variant of Guillian Barre [...]

Muscle Biopsy #2

Posted by: Admin on: November 13, 2008

It’s the first of October, and the second muscle biopsy is performed. My daughter states that this biopsy was much more painful than the first. Three large samples were collected and we expect the preliminary results to return in 10-14 days.  The doctor says that the blood work done last week was normal, and he [...]

Perhaps The Start Of A Plan?

Posted by: Admin on: November 13, 2008

It’s the end of September now and we have arrived for the next neuromuscular appointment. The doctor begins the appointment by giving his report to my daughter on the MRI which was normal and the last batch of blood work, also normal. He tests her arm and leg strength and notices a definite improvement. Since her muscles (mostly in her [...]

Follow-Up Phone Calls And A Neurology Visit

About four days later, the primary doctor’s office called and said the echo was normal. The day after the neuromuscular doctor would call. The newest blood work showed a normal thyroid TSH T3 and T4, but suggested keeping any appointment with an endocrinologist, when we were able to get one. There was a slight elevation in [...]

The Neuromuscular Appointment

Posted by: Admin on: November 2, 2008

We were asked to arrive 1 1/2 hours earlier than the appointment, they wanted to do a few tests before the actual appointment with the physician. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we found that ”the tests” would be  another muscle and nerve study (EMG/NCS) ). My daughter began to get ready for the doctor; the amount of time [...]

The Start Of A Busy Week

Posted by: Admin on: October 31, 2008

Monday brought the first of three visits to receive IV steroids. I thought 60mg a day was alot, but the 1000 mg x 3 days was unbelievable. Blood was also drawn for serum immuno-fixation (cancer screen) My daughter completed the IV steroids and then continued the 60mg tablets. At night she would start taking benedryl to sleep; prednisone often [...]

Neurology Visit #2 And The Speech Pathologist

Posted by: Admin on: October 27, 2008

Finally, we had another visit with the neurologist. During the physical exam he ran all his tests again, and still felt this was muscular in nature. The biopsy was two weeks ago, and we were hoping for some answers, unfortunately, he couldn’t give us anything definitive. It appeared that the biopsy of her left leg was “suggestive” of [...]
